Sheep Street Market Raises £21,000
Congratulations to Hollie Benson and her fantastic team who have raised over £21,000 for the Silver Star Maternity Fund. Her team consists of Simon (husband), Carol (Mum), Matthew (brother) and friend Rita along with Reuben (son), all help to run the Silver Star stall at the Sheep Street Market in Bicester most Fridays as well as other events throughout the year. Hollie was looked after by the Silver Star Unit whilst pregnant with Aliyana, who will be three in December.
Holly explains:
Three years ago, at 17 weeks pregnant, I had emergency surgery to have a modified, Shirodka Stitch (cervical suture), with only 9mm of cervix left, a funneling womb, low Progestrone and a subchorionic hematoma. There was no choice, but to have this surgery, my body was failing her and without it she would not reach term. We had no guarantees it would work. It was 50/50 chance and we risked infection just by trying. Nothing could prepare me for the feelings and thoughts of it all; being bed bound and full pelvic rest was just the tip of the iceberg. Under the Silver Stars maternity care and with nothing but a hope and a prayer, they managed to get one stitch in (two were unsuccessful). This lasted until 38.5 weeks pregnant and my beautiful daughter survived the pregnancy.
Without Silver Star we would never have had her. We now raise money for Silver Star Maternity Fund and it keeps me going to know we are giving something back. We have now raised £21000!!!! Never give up on hope, keep fighting, and as always, thank you Silver Star, you saved her life. It’s a pleasure to give back and fundraise to help other families, the way we received help with our daughter Aliyana, from the amazing team at the Silver Star unit.
